Bottom Wet Section; To Fill or Not To Fill

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the input hybridtheoryd16. I kinda like the bare look in the wet section.

The carbon bag in its new location between the polyfiber and the green scrubber pad seems to be working fine. Easier to get to now to replenish and/or clean.

I took out the air pump line to my sump's power head; been thinking that there was far the too much agitation on the surface in the tank from all the bubbles which was preventing heavier detritus and waste from rising and going to my overflow.

Added another Power Head; placed it at the bottom and aimed the output to stir up and direct the detritus and waste. Seems to be working pretty good now. Maybe after a few minor adjustments to the output (as well as to my Flare Noozles on my Directional Flow Diffuser from the other power head) I will have zero debris collecting on the bottom of the tank.

Moving the bag is a great idea as carbon does needs to changed once a month or so.
If you could get to the pump section you could partition off the pump with a piece of glass thus letting you add some sintered glass media and have the water flow through it before going under the glass to the pump.
I think though because you are limited by space you have everything placed optimally.

Appreciate your input Ramesh...

Thinking about re-hooking up that airline back to my powerhead but with limited air output. I miss the microbubbles and now with the second powerhead on the bottom I think my debris issue is solved. I don't think the bubbles will push the heavier debris down as before.

The airline with check-valve to the sump power head return has been reinstated with no detritus/debris problem as before... the second power head is performing well.

My wife bought a flowering water plant for the tank utilizing an ingenious but simple suction cup device to attach the plant to the backside of the tank. She thought the fish needed more hiding places. Pics are of before, after, and of my Discus checking out the new addition.

Looks good. I would definitely move the carbon up. Of course, it is not needed on a constant basis. You typically use it to just remove chemicals.

Yes sir, I already moved it higher but it is now out of the tank for a two week break. Thank you for your advice and input.
