Ok so I wont be able to do this project for another year but I couldnt wait to share. I dont know if anyone has done this but I think it can be done. The island in the middle will be for a turtle. Sorry about the under par diagram. I did it on photoshop. the finished product will be lined with brick and have a rock formation behind the top tank with a waterfall that wraps around the upper tank. I know its not in the diagram but I'm not that good at photoshop. anyways let me know what you think of the general idea. I'll be thinking up new things and changing the design several times before making the actual finished product. :headbang2

Would look killer. The problem will be filling the bottomless tank then turning it over and raising it into position to hold the vacuum. Then every time you drain the main tank below the upper one you will have to do it again. The other option would be to put a valve in the top of the upper tank and vacuum the air out until it fills with water. Would need one heck of a vacuum pump but it would work.

Thanks for the heads up on the vacuum thing. Definitely gotta figure out a way. and dont worry I'll take a bunch of pics when I do it!!!!

I wouldn't think a vacuum would be absolutely necessary. Unless the tank is bigger than 30g it should be pretty manageable to flip and lift with two people.

Besides a vacuum, couldn't one just use a valve and manual pump, like a reverse bicycle hand-pump?

Seems like a neat idea, but I'm guessing it'll be empty 99.8% of the time. The fish will probably prefer to hang out in the main area of the pond where all the plants, substrate, cover objects, open surface, etc. are.
