Bought a rhom 21.99$!

F1, do you know where that fish is collected? doesn't look like the typical rhom to me.

I was told it was from Guyana, he is kind of odd compared to the other juvy rhoms I see around here... what do you think?

Nice tank and good luck! I am a big fan of buying small and growing out. I love large rhoms, but I am sentimental and would rather grow the fish out. I didnt start as small as you, but grew my guy from 2.5/3in to 9.5/10in over the last 14 years. Really wish I took more pictures, but back in '99 digital cameras were just starting and no such thing as a camera phone :)

don't worry my mom still rocks the disposable cameras LOL. Buying big is cool too but their way more expensive, seeing them grow is great as well. Thanks :)

Thanks for your help. Now that he's growing I'm noticing a slight change, here's a few more shots if it helps:

Not eigenmanni. Likely striolatus (iffy) but more likely denticulata.

that's what I got from Frank (the guy that made opefe.com)

Wow thanks man!

The Denticulata seems to be the one, its has very odd shaped teeth and the colors match, hard to tell when these buggers are only dime size what exactly they are but I feel great about it being a cool species, guess now I have to buy a rhom!

Here's a cool link that explains more, never knew this type of piranha existed....

Thanks again jp, as he grows we will definitively find out the species.

anytime F1.

Yea it's cool to grow out mystery serra.
it's always hard to ID them as even within the same species they can look quite different sometimes.

UPDATE*

Still been doing loads of research on this guy and not 100% certain exactly what type of Piranha it is. JP has definitely offered great insight and here are some better pics which will hopefully end the debate!

Cranked up light intensity(6500k/4050lumens) and fertz. Think I got it all right because these plants are absolutely taking off and the mystery P loves it!

Thanks for looking

Any guesses (of the mystery piranha. It was sold as a black guayna) or critiques of the planted tank are welcome and appreciated as its my 1st serious attempt at a planted tank, used eco complete sub on bottom and pfs on top, c02 is 1 bubble/2 seconds.
