Here's the deal.....
I bought a used 300 gallon Clarity Plus acrylic tank. 8 by 2 by 30 tall. It's made of 1/2 Acrylic except for the back. The back is double layered 1/4 inch.
Filled the tank up this weekend after building a stand and finishing all the plumbing. No leaks, but it bows. I drained it as I decided to do some plumbing different on the bulkheads.
I called Clarity Plus today and explained the situation and to see if bowing was normal. I was informed the company had been obtained by the new owners a few years ago and that all tanks of this size are now 3/4 inch. The guy said he would NOT trust it in his house.
Now here's my question for all you guys....... What the hell do I do?
I guess I could try to brace it but I don't know if I'de sleep at night knowing it's not even constructed right to begin with.
Other option....... one REALLY REALLY expensive sump.
Last (and my favorite option) Turn this thing into a 300 gallon Jungle Juice tub with a 2 inch spicket right on the front.
The thing doesn't bow that bad in the front (3/4 to maybe an inch) which from my conversation this morning is considered normal. The back however bows more. Guessing an inch to an inch and a quarter. It appears the tank is stretched as the bowing is there without water in it.
What a fantastic way to learn a lesson.......
If I wasn't so full of holiday cheer I'de probobly do something pretty irrational right now.
