Here's the deal.....

I bought a used 300 gallon Clarity Plus acrylic tank. 8 by 2 by 30 tall. It's made of 1/2 Acrylic except for the back. The back is double layered 1/4 inch.

Filled the tank up this weekend after building a stand and finishing all the plumbing. No leaks, but it bows. I drained it as I decided to do some plumbing different on the bulkheads.

I called Clarity Plus today and explained the situation and to see if bowing was normal. I was informed the company had been obtained by the new owners a few years ago and that all tanks of this size are now 3/4 inch. The guy said he would NOT trust it in his house.

Now here's my question for all you guys....... What the hell do I do?

I guess I could try to brace it but I don't know if I'de sleep at night knowing it's not even constructed right to begin with.

Other option....... one REALLY REALLY expensive sump.

Last (and my favorite option) Turn this thing into a 300 gallon Jungle Juice tub with a 2 inch spicket right on the front.

The thing doesn't bow that bad in the front (3/4 to maybe an inch) which from my conversation this morning is considered normal. The back however bows more. Guessing an inch to an inch and a quarter. It appears the tank is stretched as the bowing is there without water in it.

What a fantastic way to learn a lesson.......

If I wasn't so full of holiday cheer I'de probobly do something pretty irrational right now.

UMMMM, sorry bout your situation. You could make into a mega sump, sell it to somebody willing to take the bowing risk, or sell it to a reptile guy.

Ever think of getting into turtles or lizards?

If ugly isn't an issue, you could brace it externally.

Never thought of the flipping idea..........

Too bad it's reef ready.

Sump would be a great idea, but sealing baffles would be a major P.I.T.A.

Between almost all my Armatus dying, dealing with shady ray people, and now this, I'm starting to wonder how much a guy in this hobby has to take before it's desperation and vengence and no longer a hobby......LOL

I'd brace it, and if it bows that badly, fill it like halfway and do planted, where the plants come out of the water, but are still in the tank. Someone had one on here before, it was really awesome looking, don't think I'd be able to find it again if I tried though. If you did that brackish with archers, you could see how they hunt... :)

Go with the reptile enclosure...300 gallons of anything on the floor would be a biotch...

The clairity Plus people might give you a rightous trade-in too, just to keep their name in good standing...worth a try :(

Trade in is a definite No-Go.... They made that blatently clear.

Maybe I'll just buy a brand new one..... They're only $2.6K......LMFAO.

Reptile enclosure...... I need another mouth to feed like I need another hole in my head......LOL

So anyone care to take a stab at what something like this would be worth? Obviously I'm never going to see close to what I paid for it. Just trying to access the situation.

this tends to happen alot with 1/2" and if they used cheap acrylic or if it really old gl i hope you can get it srong enuff to hold and work for you thats why when i really want acrylic i ended up with glass
