Bowed 300 What to do?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I payed $500 for it. :irked: :screwy:

Guess I've got some hard core thinking ahead of me.

I really appreciate ALL the suggestions!!! PLEASE keep them coming. :headbang2

$500 is a lot of money. Have you gotten in contact with the person you purchased it from? If I was in your position, I sure would try my best to get my money back.

Another suggestion: to account for the lack of safety margin, as someone else suggested, just don't fill it to the top. If you put a plastic molding around the top, to say, lower the water level 2 or 3 inches (so you can't see the water level there) and fixed the back, I think you would be in business.

Why? I looked at it, it was used, I bought it. Do I blame them??? Maybe a lil. But he never false adsvertised. It doesn't leak. But I can't complain as I got a fat deal on the 750. That it looks like I may have a sump for now........

Hrm......

A decieving canopy.............

Good one Spiff........

I would make a nice wooden brace to frame the top and bottom all the way round and maybe some additional vertical bracing in the back. Would be worth a try. If it works just paint it black and it will look nice and be functional.

I have just been going through a similar situation with a 6'x24"x26" tank made of 1/2" acrylic I picked up used. It had no cross braces and bowed like crazy when I began filling it. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187467&highlight=ugly+acrylic

What does the top of the tank look like, any bracing currently?

How about cutting the top 6-10" off, reducing the height to somewhere around 20-24". It would have much less pressure and should give you enough 1/2" material to run a lip the whole way around and some cross braces.

Go buy some tie down straps or long wood clamps, strap it / clamp it fill it up and see how bad it bows (if any). If its good to go like that, learn to appreciate how nice the fish look and not how jerry rigged the tank looks.
