Bowfin anybody?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So they aren't really compatible with much else, like sunfish or bullheads or something?

bullheads would swallow it, sunfish would pick it to death.

Bowfin should be kept by themselves.

Some like to hide, some are like puppies and will beg for food, etc. Depends on the individual fish.

I would have to disagree... :headshake The adult bowfin is a predator that feeds on anything that moves.... in my lake i saw one eat 2 sunnys right in front of me. But yes, i suppose it should be kept alone or with a bigger fish that would not harm it.

I wish they were legal In my state, I like them because they remind me of Channa.

Hey Dogfish, welcome to MFK! Good to see another MN member here!

i raise a lot of bowfin. none of which like to hide. a few of my juvies that are 12" or so demolish 6" sunnies. very aggressive predators and impressive tank fish!

This thread has been dead for 2 years... please don't dredge up old threads

It is little annoying when everybody keeping ask us about where they can get bowfins from then bring up dead threads about bowfins.
