Bowfin in TX

I live in Katy, West of Houston and I've been fortunate to catch a bowfin last summer. I caught him on a piece of live shad at about 7 in the morning. Very strong aggressive fish. I had no idea what he was when I caught him until I did some research and got some pics.
I haven't seen or caught another one since that day.

im in sa, where about in houston is a good place for bowfin? there A gars all over the place down here. some pretty big texas cichlids as well.
