bowfin or no bowfin?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would already have some in a tank. I can't find them around here, have to drive about an hour across the bay to even have the chance of finding them. Oh well, I'm still hunting. Alot of people consider them to be the snakeheads of native fishes. Big, agressive, meat eaters. If that's your thing, go for it. If not, I hear theres a sale on sissy fish down at petsmart (LOL!) JK.

Nothing wrong with a bowfin or 2.

Nope, mine is about nine inches now and is eating floating pellets. If you like them then one should be worth it to you.

i think they are really cool looking and if i do catch some i would be more then happy to ship some to some lucky people. Only problem is where to keep it until then haha. i need to really find out if the fish are in this body of water near me. And if i did find one or maybe a couple what would be a good price on a bowfin?

I got mine from a member who I have'nt seen on here recently and did'nt ask where he had gotten it from but you might want to check your laws to make sure that you can legaly collect them from your local waters.I'd hate for someone to jump out of the bushes and catch ya with a bucket full of bowfin.

I think they're great in an aquarium. I caught a bunch of juvies last year for my marine laboratory. They are pretty active!

When you caught them were in Forida at the time?

Get one. Their undulating dorsal is hypnotic. :D

i completely agree. check my old thread for pics. one of the most interactive fish i have ever had. feeds from my hand, and is very active. but keep in mind they need a tank that is at least 3 feet wide

Make sure you check the laws. If you catch a fish, and sell it, you are a comercial fisherman. You could potentially see a hefty fine. Welcome to America, home of the free. You might be able to do it as a trade, but you might not be able to send it out of state. That would require you to check the laws in both states. Just be careful.
