bowfin questions

has anybody on this post keep a adult bowfin.

I havent, but I got my info. from the NANFA Forum online who have many members who have.

I got mine at around 7" in august. He is currently in a 55 alone but will end up in a larger tank when his is big enough to hold his own. He is growing surprisigly fast and is about 11" long now and thick. He eats mainly shrimp and night crawlers but only eats after everything is dark and quiet.

ive caught them at 3' at like 10lbs i was wondering if there was any that didnt get to big for a 55

I have a 16" bowfin in a lightly stocked 300. Took a while to switch over to non live food. There is only one species (amia calva) and it will outgrow a 55 gal tank very quickly.

You will need to show a picture.....in Florida it could be anything.

As far as size.. I measured a carcass thrown on shore by some anti-bowfin angler at 38''. They certainly are capable of breaking the 3' mark in the wild, given plenty of forage and years to grow. It would have been a new state record for sure, what a complete waste.
