bowfin are native here in fl we catch them all the time but i never considered putting them in my tank are they anything like sh?
thats the one fish that has eluded me.... ive caught everything here in s florida except for dang bowfin
I get bowfin for $0.99 CAD per pound 
My chinese supermarkets always get smaller ones in their shipments (6-8 inches) and I just grab those if I ever want bowfin. They're quite placid when young, but my old male (RIP @ a whopping 27.5 inches =( ) was quite a monster, beat up more/less everything I tried keeping him with, including a larger female.

What city do you live in and what other North American natives can you get?Bullheads,bullgill?
Here in Florida bowfin "mudfish" are junk fish we try not to catch. We've caught many over 24" long. If you wanna catch on just put a dead shiner on the end of your line... they'll show up, if the gar don't get it first.
But after all this talk I might just put in a 12-20" in my tank... see how it get's along...

IF anyone is interested I want to trade my 8in. bowfin for anyone that has a dovii(wolf cichlid)
Since you seem so persistant on getting rid of your bowfin contact me by PM if all else fails. I do not have a dovi for trade nor anything else but the fish would be used for education in a public facility.
