i have heard they are good to eat, but up here they are looked at like garbage and alot(way to many) people catch them and kill them just because they think they are junk fish that kill game fish. it is sad really.
Let me know what happens with this, I'd really like to see one. I have no idea what I could tank him with though... maybe spotted gar and cats?
I have kept my Bowfins with Longnose Gar, Florida Gar with success.
I have had some issues between gars and both (Bullhead & Channel Catfish). Catfish barbells are usually history with Gar. I have never triad to home a Bowfin with a Bullhead catfish, but do keep one with a channel catfish. The Bowfin terrorizes the Channel catfish at eating time, but has never done and serious permanent damage to it. I have had extreme ranging results with Bowfin and Green Sunfish. I have had both of my bowfins devour and shred them. I also have at least one Green Sunfish homed with each Bowfin perfectly for well over a year? No idea what the trigger mechanism is (It is NOT size, as the Bowfins have both taken out large Greenies!)
hey every one,
i have made a vid, but i can't find the cord to connect it to the computer. as soon as i find the cord i will post it.
i see them with bullheads a lot, they use them for cover and a food source. i have them with a smaller channel cat right now and no issues. i also have 3(2 males and 1 female) in my main display with; 2 florida gar, 1 shortnose gar, 6 silver arowanas, 1 tsn, 1 rtcxtsn, 1 pumkinseed, 1 smallmouth bass, 2 convicts, 1 s.a. lungfish, 1 endli bichir, 1 ornate bichir, 2 sen bichirs, i may be missing something, but i think thats the list as of right now.
Yes, given the RTCxTSN catfish & Bowfins, I would count on "missing" your Senegal Bichirs and Convict cichlids before they are fully grown!
