mine is really active most of the day at night he tends to sleep on the bottom they get really tame and will come up to you on the side of the tank your on. mine is a male.

Interesting thanks, what temp do you keep your tank at. They seem to be pretty accepting of other tank mates provided that they are the same size ofcourse. Do you think a 5" red wolf and a same size bowfin will be ok short term?

Short term the red wolf won't like most elongated fish. I've had this issue with them. Plus you can get away with it with a heavier decored tank. It won't take the bowfin to outgrow the red wolf. So advised not to do it.

Bowfin surprisingly like cooler waters, their optimal tempurature as adults is 64 F. But young ones like it warmer, they grow faster in warmer waters. Bowfins are of course unpicky though and will do fine in anything from 60-79 degree
