Not sure, I just pulled it from the DNR site. (in response to Wiggles92)

note the red. this is the separation from not having them at all to the ability to have non-wild fish from another state. at least the way i read it. it is worded simmilar in my state on the paddle fish and sturgeons.

as for colorados permit to import i was unknown to this and i will let the person that wants bowfins from me to look into that. does penn. have the same laws?

i don't believe that this pertains to fish that are not taken from the states waters. for example, here in MN we have a simmilar regulation on lake sturgeons and paddle fish. yet they may be kept in aquariums if they are not taken from the lakes and rivers of the state. if you were to have a receipt for them you can have them in possession. this pertains to all game fish will min size limits.

There's more to it; I'll have to find the exact part that says that they can't be kept no matter what.

PA doesn't have any import laws that I have come across thus far.

The CO laws were brought up before in regards to gars, and the general consensus was that keeping them is an "at your own risk" activity because of the weird wording that makes importing illegal without a license thereby making 99% of all of the ones in the state illegal. Bowfins are on the same list as gars for that which is why the same thing still applies.

alright, it is just confusing bureaucracy then. just trying to make you have to look way into it instead of taking it for face value. that way they can get someone with one for some fundraising.

Ya, that's pretty much what it is. It's legal to have them if they're brought in to the state legally (highly unlikely) or if they were bred in an aquarium/indoor pond in the state (also highly unlikely). Here's a link to that thread that I was referring to before.

thanks i'll past that info on to the guy i am talking to trying to sort this all out.

did you find that statment on penn.s regulation?

i look around and just see wiping before pooping. leaves you scratching your head.

No, I haven't found that statement again; I really should have bookmarked it the first time I found it. I'll have to email the PFBC and ask them for a confirmation of their legality along with a link to the regulations; I'm hoping that I just misread something along the line, and they're legal.

While I don't have any bowfins, I'd like to throw in the names "Bowfin Brigade" and "Bowfin Battalion" for consideration for naming this group. I personally favor "Bowfin Brigade" over "Bowfin Battalion," but it's up to those of you who keep bowfins. And, yes, I enjoy giving somewhat cheesy names to these groups. :nilly:

Bowfintry... (infantry?) :p
