I was thinking. On this forum we all know a bowl isn't suitable for a fish, and we instantly think bowl=bad. But think about it like this. If it wasn't for bowls/betta kits, many people would never have entered the hobby. Sure, it kills fish, but if someone wins a goldfish at a carnival and buy a tiny bowl for it, then stumbles across this forum or another decent one, they might realize the error of their ways and become a monster fish keeper. Without tiny goldfish bowls, we might not have this hobby.

I seroisly think i got dumber listening to wht u said...Im srry but in no way r u rite here... jk its interesting to think as dumbly as u do jk but i never thght of it that way! kind cool idea

im sure some people came about this way... my fish keeping came one day when i saw an oscar full grown. I walked by the glass and he would charge and bite my finger... The guy told me he was free to a good home he killed everything. I asked him what size tank i could get away with and he said a 29 gallon. I had never had a fish tank bigger than a 2 gallon before so i didnt know much. I told him i would take a 55 gallon(because my mom said it would look better on her table if we got a longer tank) and got the fish for free. Man he was so mean and i loved him so. R.I.P horsedick! yes that was his name lol

hahahaha. i started when i got a few guppies in a 30gal....then i went fishing and caught a little bullhead catfish and watched him rip the guppies to peices.....i just gave that catfish away 2 days ago...i never used a fish bowl but i guess a lot of people do get into monster fish keeping that way.

Honestly, what was the incentive to post that? I think I got dumber trying to read that... you changed you opinion twice by saying jk... :screwy:

Back to the op, its an interesting idea. I think we would still have the hobby if there weren't fish bowls. It just provides more revenue for the lfs and makes them profitable.

I highly disagree. ten gallon kits are cheap enough that if bowls were taken out of the market people would be just fine.

Not me, my 1st tank was a 20gallon...my 2nd was another 20 gallon...my 3rd was a 55 gallon.

Edit: I did buy 10 gallons later as I was picking them up for $9.99 brand new
