Honestly, what was the incentive to post that? I think I got dumber trying to read that... you changed you opinion twice by saying jk... :screwy:

Back to the op, its an interesting idea. I think we would still have the hobby if there weren't fish bowls. It just provides more revenue for the lfs and makes them profitable.

HAHA that was the point!

I highly disagree. ten gallon kits are cheap enough that if bowls were taken out of the market people would be just fine.
^ yea they are kinda cheap, but im sure if u wasnt into fish, people would look at petco or walmart first and paying 50-75 each.

50-75$ down on a ten then some decor and some fish that wont live for sure sound kinda risky for first timers.

i bought small tanks than worked my way up...sure i spent alot but i wasnt gonna buy a 300gal to later find i lost interest or my fish didnt make it to wer a 300gal is a minimal size.

Its a common misconception that "bowl=bad". With proper care and maintenence, and the right inhabitants, a bowl can make a perfectly suitable home.
Its not so much the container, as the person keeping it, and the poor information being circled about it.

To an extent, I agree with the OP though. Fishkeeping is an ever evolving hobby, and most people learn best through experience (however tragic it might be). While I never had a fishbowl (until recently. Lol), I have definitely learned a lot since my first tank as a kid.

i got hooked because when i was young my dad had a jewel cichlid that would destroy anything im its tanke even fish 4-5 times larger. wait about 10 years from when that fish died i was at the mall with my mum getting a hair cut. we stoped by the hermet crab booth and looking at it my mom asked if i wanted some and thinking about it i honestly thought id rather have fish. but i said yes because my mom said we'd need to get a fish tank so i figured when they die ill just put fish in the tank. cue 3 years later. my brothers friend offered me a 2.5 gallon i stocked with 4 different type of gold fish cory catfish and a usd catfish. learned from my started to read up on sites and found that old 20 gallon tank.

That's how much a 10g setup would cost, a bowl's like $10. Basically they help bring n00bs into the hobby

I got dumber decrypting your text message lingo....

I started when I was little with a betta and a bowl killed it and figured out I was doing it all wrong. And the rest well you know the saying.

Yes, fishy12, no offense, but could you seriously type regular? Like when you say, for example "really" could you type "really" not "rlly"? It just gets really annoying.

Back on topic, making mistakes helps you learn.

At walmart a 10gallon fish tank costs only 10 bucks for the tank
