"Bowser" - Amphilophus Trimaculatus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Quick, no picture update. Since my last update, Bowser has hunted and "removed" (8) large redhooks, (3) medium spotted silver dollars and 2 small trimac females (expected).

For the last 2 months or so, he left one small female alone. Yesterday, she jumped out of the tank and didnt make it. Theres only a small 1.5" area open and she happened to jump out of it. Bowser has never really shown any aggression to her, but its safe to assume that he chased her to her demise.

He is currently alone in the 100g and am going to give him one more shot. Will be getting him a same size female, this time around. I'll keep this thread posted.

I know some of the "experts" will have something to say, but honestly, I have learned so much with my first try at a CA cichlid.

Live and learn; especially from the mistakes.

damn dude that sucks, good luck. from my experience, my trimac was very aggressive when younger and smaller but has mellowed out as he got older and bigger, however he is starting to turn a little aggressive now.

Bowser is a GRADE-A douche.

I knew it going in, but I didnt think he'd be this bad.

Lol most Trimacs are. Great personality but not the most fish friendly! How's it going with the females?

Going good so far. Came home and divider was down. He's a strong as poop. He was harrassing the females pretty good, except for the largest one. Looks like he has his eyes on her. Put the divider back up (thanks, Justin!) And was able to snap a shot a few shot of them.

The other two females are hiding, barred up and stressed.

Thanks. How big was your Trimac when it started to mellow out?

Looking good man, he's going to be a brute.

Thanks for the kind words sir!

I hope you're not just throwing those new females in his 100 man. He has claimed that tank and anything you throw in there that can't stand up to him is not gonna end well. I would move him solo to one of your racked tanks for a week or two and let the females settle in and fatten up a bit. Then throw him in with a divider, let them fill up with eggs, then give it a shot. Good luck bro!

That is something that I need to consider. My two 40s are full right now but I do have room on the top of the rack for another 40 and I think the $1/gallon sale is still on.

Hmm...

This fish is on the top of my list! Let's see an updated picture of the bad boy....

Was able to get some shots last night with my phone. Not great, but you get the picture. (See what I did there?)

He's a good hefty 6" now.
