Box swap

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
CCA has an auction at each of our monthly club meetings (www.capitalcichlids.org) - usually around 150-200 items.

We incorporated the fish from the box swap into the auction so that everyone who attended (members, non-members, people who donated, people who didn't) could bid on them. Proceeds covered shipping costs and the rest went to the club (to support club activities).

Other clubs only open up bidding on Box Swap fish to club members who actually donated fish, both as an incentive to support the club and to donate quality fish toward the box swap.

CCA has another swap planned for the fall!

Here in Milwaukee, there is a small auction at the end of every meeting, with BAP (breeder award program) and donated fish, for us maybe 20 or so bags. (many times club members with large spawns use that time to divest)
There are separate large auctions twice per year, and a couple swap meets.
We also do a bit of back and forth with Chicago clubs.
And many members simply trade with each other.
The day of the box swap, I also came home with about 10 Cichlasoma dimerus bella union fry from a Milwaukee member.

Little follow up,
The Astatheros longimanus are most impressive, going from about 0.5" to almost 3" in 6 months.

I believe the dimerus are same age, or no more than a few weeks apart, they were from Dan's pair.
And Jon, there are 2 large longimanus, and 1 about half the size, I'm guessing the smaller is the female, fins a bit more round too, although I realize that's generally too young to know.

Duanes, are those Cichlasoma dimerus you got the same age as the ones I have?

Do you keep your dimerus in a heated tank, or unheated? What is your feeding schedule? Mine aren't as far long developmentally as yours.

No heat for the dimerus (summer temps in my fishroom are low 70s, bit cooler now), they are in a 60 gal tank with some Archocentrus multispinosus (also from Dan's parents), fed once per day with a spirulina based pellet (I did toss hair algae from the pond in the tank during summer), and lots of water changes. Your fish may be from a spawn a few weeks, or a month later, which may account for later development.
Mine are maybe 2"-3", although I believe may look bigger in the pic.

Duanes, they're all growing nicely and look fantastic, but I'm especially liking the Panamense.
