Boy Reels In Bull Shark; Set New Record

PALM BEACH (CBS4) ― A 12-year-old Connecticut boy reeled in the catch of a lifetime off the coast of Palm Beach.

Aiden Murray Medley, who weighs only 120 pounds, caught a 551-pound bull shark on Tuesday just north of the Palm Beach Inlet. The catch went onto Florida's record for the biggest bull shark reeled in.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the state's record is a 517-pound catch in 1981 in Panama City Beach.

It's not Aidan's first shark. He reeled in a 461-pound shark last year.

Aidan is in Palm Beach this week visiting relatives. He plans to have the bull shark mounted.

Not here. All the man made canals have made a haven for them to to feed in.

there was a 7ft bullshark caught in the Mississippi river (in Tennessee)back in the late 80's
Granted it was very lost and its really weird for it to swim that far north but it had to take a good while to swim that far and it was feeding in freshwater for however long it was there till it was caught.

I always find it entertaining how its usually kids and first timers that always seem to get really lucky and catch the largest fish or shoot the trophy buck, and then sometimes lose interest bc the sport is "too easy", hopefully that doesnt become the case. Personally I would debate releasing it if possible and getting a replica made, because most likely it has good genes, and it would give others a motivation to fish, knowing the current state record is still in the Atlantic somewhere.
