Hey all,

I've been trying to find solid information for Blood Parrots, but I am having quite a bit of difficulty. I have never owned a bp, but I am hoping to if my tank is large enough. There seems to be a debate about how large of a tank bp should have. I currently have an empty 45 gallon which is roughly 3 feet long, 1 foot deep, and 2feet high. Is this a sufficiently large tank for one bp? If there was room, I possibly would consider some smaller tankmakes (but not small enough to get eaten.) Thoughts?

That's probably bare minimum, as long as your BP isn't stunted from poor care at the LFS.

BP's have midas/red devil blood in them, and those cichlids get big.

I've seen a BP 9" in diameter at an LFS.

Don't worry, BPs that big are not that common. A 45 should be good. BPs often have Swim bladder issues. Sometimes they can also have trouble eating

Yeah, I can't imagine a BP getting large enough to outgrow those dimensions, as long as the filtration is sufficient.
