BP Tank Size?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the help guys, sounds like I'm good specially then. Are BP known to have a lot of problems? I'm kind of trying to decide where I am on this side of the debate. I really like the looks of BPs, but I don't like the idea of supporting something if it truly is harmful to the animal itself. I have heard that many young BP don't survive, is that true?

Please don't make this a BP debate. I have read the other debate, but I would just like to have my question answered. Thanks. :)

BPs are prone to Swim bladder problems. Sometimes they have trouble competing for food. If its the only fish in there that shouldn't be a problem

Thanks for the info!

Ha,TC.. Did you join Monster due to Minnesota forum drama?. I did :)

Actually, I haven't really been on the forum! Maybe just once. ;)

Any other thoughts?

I would do a blood parrot only tank. I haven't seen a bp get much bigger than 6 inches a good diet and proper filtration with regular water changes you should have no problem. A nice fish lots of personality

I have 4 BP's, all of them are over the 6" mark, the 2 largest ones are 8" and 9" and have no issues competing for food with my equally sized Severums (they actually push the severums out of the way). A 45 should be OK for 1 BP but a 4ft tank would be better, especially if you want to keep other fish with it.

I have seen people putting 7 inch BPs into a 20L, so 45 should be enough. Keep the water clean and they'll be happy.
