When I got all four of my wisdom teeth removed in a day surgery procedure a few years ago all seemed well until a few days afterwards when I manned up and started poking around in there to see what the damage was. I was stitched up as I had two impacted teeth that needed to be cut out so I never really had any bleeding after I got out of recovery. Felt a sharp slice on my finger and pulled it out quickly, had a bit of blood on it which seemed weird if I was stitched up, and then I realized it was blood from my finger, which I'd sliced open.

Long story short, went back to my surgeon who realized he had accidentally cracked a thin lining of my jawbone when removing one of the teeth, which isn't all too rare. What he was still wrong about was how big it was, he thought it was just this tiny little piece of jawbone; ended up being almost an inch long. It didn't feel attached to anything other than gum so he decided to remove it.

The bad news was we didn't use any anaesthetic and he just pulled it out with a lot of effort and a pair of tongs of some kind. Jawbone, plenty of gum, and lots of blood ensued.
