I wonder what happened to the OP's fish? Probably never got it or got something different from what he was hoping for.
 
One mis-ID that's appears tough is telling them apart from Pimelodus albicans, a relatively small fish. Here are good descriptive threads. Small eyes, characteristic of all Brachyplatystomas, at small size/young age appear to be the definitive give away. Albicans has relatively large eyes at any size/age.

They are pretty average growers from what I've seen. Also an advice for cat owners/keepers never put big cats on pellets only diet as it's ridiculous... not enough protein. Feed chopped fish or live fish or worms or insects mix diet works best but mostly fish. They are like zz's slower growth rate compared to RTC but none the less should still have a good growth rate. From 3-4 inches to 8-10inches in a year is the what I've seen personally. Only the RTC have I seen crazy ridiculous growth spurts. All other cats usually average 8-12inches in a year or bigger.
