I have never kept FW pipefish but if they are like the brackish/SW ones I used to catch, they seem to need multiple feedings each day as they are pickers. I would feed mine a large dose of brine shrimp a couple times a day but also add small clumps of fresh algae from the grass beds that I caught them in. This would provide a lot of little critters for them to hunt and eat.
