Bracing for 8x4 tank

2k usd for 4 sheets of 1" is good. But what brand. That's important, acrylic isn't like it used to be. They're only a few brands big guys trust now. Spartech polycast, arkema Plexiglas g and PMACS. That's really all my guys recommend now days. Cyro acrylite isn't what it used to be especially colored. But the clear can work. Chemcast looks like sunglasses compared polycast, my guy quit using them too. Maybe you guys have something I haven't heard of over there. Also what solvents are you using?

What method of bonding are you using? Capillary? Pins?

I was going to use the pin method and I'm not sure what brand is any good over hear this will be my first time building a tank and will Weldon 4 work for this size ? And I was going to scrap the edges before and then flame polish them afterwards like Uarujoey.

You can get a glass tank of tank size built on site for probably around £1200.

Is a lot of money to throw down on first attempt at making one. I'm not saying you can't, but I wouldn't wana to risk that much material on my first attempt lol.

If your insistent on acrylic, get a quote from neptunes, they're quite competitive, would probably cost around £2000 having it made for you?

I thought acrylic would be cheaper and I've literally just got a quote for that size tank and steel stand for 1350 so I will go for instead but Ye just thought acrylic would be cheaper and easier to drill holes etc and obviously lighter aswell ha

I've just ordered a 7.5 x 3 x 2.5 from ac aquatics with weir and cover glass, only cost me £570! Then £150 for a custom fluidised sump.

Would be a lot lighter, so if have money then go for it lol

really that's really good price how come it's that cheap lol only half a foot shorter on the length and a foot on the width ?

No idea, that's built in 12mm glass with double bass.

They are very reasonable prices!

Then I've got a chap building me a steel stand in two pieces that bolt together for £650' inc powder coating. Is using industrial steel so no braces front or back meaning can fit another tank same size underneath for when my rays get bigger lol

Geez man. I'm going disagree with him strongly on this. I recommend you have the edges routed. If you choose to scrape you have to be very even and if you make the surface sloped or round edges you risk air intrusion into the seam or the seam isn't square. might look okay but can fail prematurely.

Go to local plastic shop and get cheap scrap. Practice. Weld on4 is ok. Better 93% methylene chloride 7% glacial acetic acid. Longer work time stronger bond. If you use Weldon 4 don't wait 2 minutes like he says in the video. It will already be setting and the pins will likely leave bubbles and a gap for air intrusion.
