mine (gymnothorax tile) are growing healthy in 50% marine, big appetites. never had appetite issues at all

Same here. At the store where I work, we keep ours (Gymnothorax tile) at about 1.008 - 1.010 and they do great. Yes, we've had them for a while, and the only losses we've had so far were jumpers. No appetite issues, they take both live and frozen and look really healthy.
