brackish stingrays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do not think there are any "true" brackish rays. Florida rays are legal and should do well in a brackish tank, but not 100% proven.

Yes the only rays that are not california legal are
Potamotrygon

The atlantic ray is

Dasyatis sabina

These rays are mainly saltwater and can only live in freshwater by releasing a huge amount of urea making the bio-load very large

People have had mixed results keeping them in freshwater

thanks im hopeing beng in a brackish envirement will be better on the ray than in fresh

yes i used to have one of the dasyatis sabina/ florida ray when i lived in texas and i kept it in brackish water actually and it seemed to put less stress on the ray by not soaking in so much pure freshwater and having to pee it out every ten minutes. the ray made it a long while till i threw a big pleco in foolishly and it sucked all the skin off her back so dont mix placo's with stingrays lol but ya it was pretty easy to care for, kept it at 1.015 which was about a quarter cup of marine salt per gallon. just be sure to account for its long tail and good luck if u do decide to get it

Just get a saltwater ray. There are several small species that do amazing in tank settings (yellow, round etc....).

wat saltwater ray from asia and western pacific would do best in the tank it has coral sand and once i get my silver datnoid i will try to get sg to about 1.012 or 1.013 my mangrove and my two filters should help with bioload
