Braid or Fluorocarbon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Braided is all i use these i run 20p braid on my spinning rod the tie a swivel on with 17p or 6p fluorocarbon depending on what i'm trying for. i like having the extra strength there because you never know what you may hook into.

i have read some articles about some new fluorocarbon that is suppose to soft enough not to hold so much memory that it can be used as a main line. it is made by a Japanese company but i have not tried it so have no real use info on it

I used to use mono like everyone else and switched to berkley vanish fluro and had good results. Flouro is more abrasion resistant than even braid so it is great for fishing in rocks with a jig or any fishing in clear water. I fish in the weeds mostly so I use braid all the time now, but if I go for smallies I have a spool of vanish ready to go. What are you fishing for?

i prefer neither i prefer mono but braid is ok but fluoro is way better than braid but if you like braid so much then just use it and have a fluoro leader..any size you want i guess im not exactly sure..

The Albright Knot is one of the most reliable connections for joining lines of greatly unequal diameters or different materials (including mono to braided or single strand wire). It is easy to tie and should be in everyones arsenal of knots.

flouro unless im at falcon flippin heavy cover :D
i use flouro for everythin!! the new trilene is awesome as well as the bass pro flouro

Im just fishing for the usual suspects JPM. Bass Pike Catfish Muskie Bluegill etc.... Mostly bass though I guess. The fluoro leader is what im going with I guess, I just hate to buy a whole spool to only use about 2 ft at a time. But I will, because I have convinced myself that if I do I will catch more fish. Compulsion is a *****. You know though, it is very clear water, and I have a habit of overestimating bass intelligence. I am very happy with braid as my main line. I can cast it a mile and it just feels good to use. Plus hooking up with the fish seems easier. By the way I donated my black jitterbug to the middle of the lake today screwing around with my back up rod. I'm retiring that piece of crap, and was wondering if anyone could recommend a cheap reel that would work awesome. I'll pick up some cheap 6ft rod, im not as concerned about that.

Is a line class record the heaviest fish caught using the line? I would guess so if that's the case. Either way the record is safe from me, the heaviest thing I caught was a catfish and Im pretty sure it could have been caught with no problems on mono. I just cant use the stuff, Im the Charlie Brown of tangled bird nests. I might accidentally strangle myself.

I imagine line test ratings are set by line weight only. 15lb mono=15lb fluro= 15lb braid. Just all the other stuff changes like diameter, memory, elasticity ect.
