My point exactly...(refer to my earlier post)

So, please do tell me where you can get a brand new 300 gallon tank with brand new solid wood stand/canopy for $800. I want to be part of this "hardcore hobbyist" sector that gets all the cool deals.

Better yet, show me a place where you can get even a slightly used 300 gallon (that with elbow grease you can make "like new") with a brand new stand/canopy for $800 or "even cheaper". Remember, brand new will always mean brand new...and brand new will always be better than used, even if your elbow grease is super effective :).

If there are, you might find one (if it wasn't your craigslist post) in a long shot, but your last phrase,"when they can get a 300g for the
same price or sometimes even cheaper...
" makes it seem like you find these deals all the time.

If YOU have had any experience cleaning glass tanks YOU will know that cleaning a 60 gallon tank with hard water built up all over with a razor is no small task...it will take at least a good hour to get it to "good" condition...so you can imagine what a 180 gallon would take...or let alone YOUR 300 gallons that you see all the time.

Not that you asked, but I use to do maintenance calls for a LFS (as a side job) which supplied Visio tanks and what you think are "jacked up" prices (in this case, can't speak for others) is actually borderline wholesale, if not less.

A brand new 180 gallon (sorry vendors...) sells for just about $300 with tops WHOLESALE.

That specific solid pine stand would go for "around" $400+ish wholesale (depending on who supplier is)...and yes, before you start...I know there are cheaper stands out there (more plain styles) and even open stands that you can get for $200ish or so.

Canopy will go for about $250ish Wholesale.

He bought for $975, so he either got a really good deal or a LFS ended up selling it for cost to clear up some floor space (which happens all the time).

So much for "jacked up" retail...

I know Strictly Fish (or somewhere around there) has occasional "at cost" sales to bring you into purchase other goods.

POOR GUY, signed onto MFK to make his first for sale thread and gets this treatment.

i didnt say anything about his thread i was just laughing at you because of what you said...
you obviously dont know the works and the way around this hobby as for prices but who
is gonna pay some jacked up retail price for a tank just because it's new & "has never seen
water"... most here do there research here before buying and some being the hardcore
hobbyist that they are wont pay $800 for a 180g just cause it's new when they can go out
there and get a much larger tank and put a little elbow grease in it and make it look new again...
it's only common sense. who's gonna buy a 180g for $800 when they can get a 300g for the
same price or sometimes even cheaper...

first of all read what i said correctly before you reply and put words in my mouth.
when have i ever stated the "condition" of a tank you can purchase used. i said you
can buy a used tank put some elbow grease in it and make it look new again, never
have i stated "slightly used" or barely used and etc etc... also on the top of my head
i could think of someone that has a nice 300g setup with a nice custom built base
for $800 and hes on this forum also. show you a place where you can buy a 300g
setup for $800? i dont need to; look for yourself it's right in front of you. learn to use
the search feature and look it up. i have seen countless 200-300g+ setups in very
good conditions without scratches, dings and etc being sold for around $7-800 give
or take some... and fyi i have plenty of experience cleaning glass and acrylic tanks
maybe the one who needs more experience is you since your the fool using razor
blades to clean such large scale aquariums....and your statement about lfs selling
products for borderline wholesale prices or less is just nonsense cause if they did
they wont even make enough money to keep the store open for business and if they
did it's most likely a short time period where they're having discounted sales to
bring customers in, or closing up the business or just rich and dont give a f* or
something similar to the likes. also if you think $400 is whole sale price for a
stand for a 180g just bc its made from pine imho i think your smoking something
or on something cause i have seen better show quality stands for cheaper!
and please dont say "poor guy" cause all i did was laugh at your stupid statement
and you came and caused this big scene... and oh ya ive been in and still in
the wholesale business so tell me what "wholesale" prices are if you dont really
know. cause what you "think" you know and what you truly know by fact is two
totally different things...

also OP sorry to derail your thread like this, no hard feelings? lol :)

I never will lol HAHAHAA

Also sorry for derail. once an argrument starts it never finishes lol

lol hahaha nicee! +1 exotic! :D lol

ya once it starts it doesnt end but ill stop i dont wanna be rude and derail his thread more even though
i already did... lol (sorry again Op)

if there's ppl out there that will buy it for that price then let them, and i know they are out there. it's not a bad deal. but asking the guy to sell his tank for cheaper is lowball ish and ain't right unless your gonna buy it. what "tomojsg" posted is right tho for ppl that been out in this hobby for a while and on the threads for a long time. i myself am just like that and that is how i bought my tanks and they came out pretty nice. i prefer to buy used and will not pay those high lfs prices for jumbo glass tanks, but that's just me. i've see deals like this and they actually sold at the high price. there is a big market out there and ppl are always selling tanks everyday especially in so cal where most these deals are. and a 300 for under a thousand ain't hard to find ftw, i've seen them occasionally and have bought tanks in the same way. so glws i know there are ppl that will buy the tank at new prices but there are also ppl that will shop around for the better "used" monster deals..

^ thank you, someone who understand wtf im saying and doesnt put words in my mouth! lol
these noob hobbyist think they know everything because they learned a few tricks... heck ive
been in the hobby since i was born since my old man was in the hobby and i still dont know
everything there is to know... well scientific and mathematical wise when it comes to the hobby
lol...

ah...teenagers.

So many things to reply to in regards to your post. Talk about putting things in people's mouth, or better yet...posts.

Anyhow, In all my threads my attempts were to back up the seller and his price. I did not intend to get into an arguing match and further derail the thread.

And I am confident now that (based on your last comment in the quoted post) that you do not know much about wholesale pricing - check with Advanced Aqua tanks (makers of Visio/Clear for Life) or Leemar (or do you even know who they are :D)...but I guess on the internet, keyboard warriors can say/claim just about anything...case closed.

Don't worry Moderators, no more post (in this thread) from me.

first of all read what i said correctly before you reply and put words in my mouth.

errr ya attempt to back up the OP's thread and his asking price... did i ever make a statement on that?

funny how you think im a teenager...

who the hell doesnt know those large tank manufacturing companies especially someone in the hobby?

lol the stuff you say... fyi ive been in the whole sale business for over 14 years and worked with lfs
since i was 9 as a part time helper to make money for my own tanks and have been in the hobby my
whole life... you talk like you know shizzles by keep mentioning visio and etc but we all know you dont
know squatdiddlely...

also do me a favor and please stfu.

sorry again OP, seriously imma stop or better yet make a new thread and blame me for spamming this one... lol

its not a horrible price but once you drive it off the lot (lfs), take 30 % off the asking price no matter what. glws its a sweet set up. i paid 300 for my 225 acrylic with stand from mfk no scratches, i also paid 200 for my 180 tank stang canopy, canister filter, 10 fish, gravel, bubblers it was glass no scratches. point being your not asking too much, your just not gonna have too many buyers when theres so many used clean set ups out there.

this thread is getting funny..only a moron would say there aren't good deals on MFK or Craigslist or any other website. there are at least 4 monster tanks in the first page of the buy and sell that are under a "G".. i bought tanks used and i bought tanks new..if the buyer wants to buy a new tank then that's a pretty good deal. it's complete, just add water..
