Brand almost new 75

Ok thanks everybody all of this has been great it has given me a great start how do you size a sump for a tank?

I have a thirty gallon on my 75, but useful dimensions are the most important. If you running a sump, you should pick out a skimmer, a return pump, and a separate chamber to have your fuge. The skimmer will have a recommended water level and a dimensional foot print, so that will dictate the size of chamber one. The pumps have a foot print too, which will give you the size of chamber three. Chamber two is you fuge, which you can kind of wing depending on how much space you have in the stand. The height of the sump will be your sumps nominal water level plus enough room to hold extra water from the tank in the event that the power goes out or the pump fails.

I like reef octopus skimmers.

I like mag drive return pumps.

Other people will have some food recommendations too.

One more thing that nobody has really touched on yet is that most people would not recommend adding an anemone to a tank until it has been established for a year. There are many things changing that we don't see or test for and anemones that are put in tanks that are less than a year old tend to randomly die for no real reason, even if you feed it and have appropriate lighting. There are always exceptions, but it happens a lot.
Also, different anemones have different lighting requirements, so i'd do some research first.
You have to cover powerheads and be prepared for the anemone to randomly move around the tank, especially the first few weeks.
Also, if you wait a year to add the anemone, and you have other corals in your tank, they can be damaged or killed when the anemone moves. Just something to think about. They're cool until they decide to randomly move and kill several hundred dollars worth of coral.

Very good point here. Anemones are cool and alot of people want them for their clownfish to host to. However they need an "established" tank. Also like he said they walk. They have this "foot" and will get up and walk away. It is unpredictable. My marine biology teacher had one in his classroom tank for four hours till it walked over to the pump intake and was sucked in. So it happens lol

Bigger the sump the better in my mind.

More water volume, more stability, and more room to put cool stuff "under the hood" as I say.

Chaeto is pretty easy to keep under control, and forms a tight ball. It is also free.

I will be running some of it in my 125g (55g tank beneath a 125g) sump, along with calurpa and graecilaria (sorry about spelling, someone needs to invent a spell checker for biologists) to help with h2o quality and feed out to my tangs.

Thank you for the help, I know the tanks take an EXTREMELY long time to cycle and get settled. Also great advice on the anenome I am not planning on getting one anytime soon I just want to get lighting and everything right so later on I dont have to buy lights yet again haha. And Chaeto is free? from where? All the advice from everyone has been great thanks again

It grows wild in my tank lol... i'll send it all to you!!!!

HAHA thanks maybe once I get everything up and going. And I just started this other thread in the rock section but, has anyone heard of live rock ranch? the only reason I am asking again here is because the rock section doesnt get much attention.
