Well G'day all you MFKs'.
Thought I might share a quick thread on my latest build (not the last that's for sure)
Now being in Australia we work in different measurements but will keep it simple for yas.
I bought a PGG 4 years ago.
He lived in 4 x 1.5 x 1.8 for the first 1.5 years before he got put in my 6 x 2 x 2 which is where he stayed for the next 2.5 years.
So since growing to 2 ft it was time for an upgrade.
Deciding on tank size was had but ended up going 10 x 4 x 2.5.
Over here it is basically just Glass aquariums but you do see the odd person go with a ply tank.
So an all glass tank it was for me.
So once the tanks size was finalised I got my mate to weld me up a stand.
This was made from 40x40x3mm steel. Full frame around the top and bottom and 12 legs.







So that is the start.
I will up date this during the week as the aussie boys know it already running and stocked.

Once I bought the tank I started to collect more fish for it.
So you could say a community tank.
I wont spoil the stock list just yet.
Its pretty placid compared to some of the fish others can keep.

Sounds like a good set up, you'll love those dimensions!

I'm just trying to figure out what is going on in the last couple of pics, is the stand side-by-side in two pieces, or are they two different stands? If I'm looking at the pics wrong thin ignore this, but if it is just the 12 legs around the perimeter then IMO using 40x40x3 for the 4' front-to-back span is pretty risky. I'm sure it's been done before, but as glass has almost no ability to flex it only takes 0.25mm deflection in the steel to transfer most of the loading onto the glass and silicone. I think if you added a row of legs down the middle it would be a lot more solid, I was thinking of doing that with the stand for my tank (similar dimensions but 8' instead of 10') but instead went with 100x50x5mm for the front-to-back spans and left out the centre legs. I'd suggest adding some gussets in the corners or some sort of diagonal bracing too, with that much weight sitting on top of it even a small amount of lateral movement will put considerable stress on the stand.

Looking forward to seeing it progress, what are your plans for filtration?

There are 2 stands side by side.
The span is fine for the size of the steel and the weight it will be holding.
The stand had ply placed down and 12 mm foam as well.
It move a bit when filled.

As for filtration it will be a sump with a big K1 section.
Then flow into a mechanical section.

So once the stand was at home it was time for paint and ply.
I decided on a hammer tone grey for the paint.
19mm ply for the top and bottom of the stand.
