Brand new tank, lots of questions about setting it up.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One thing that gets over looked when talking about tank heaters is the ambiant temperiture of the room. You can get away with far less wattage if you keep the air temperiture of the room the tanks in close to your target temp.

I keep my room at about 70degrees but I'm in the basement so it changes a lot. I will just get a 150watt to be safe.

Visi-Therm Stealth Submersible Heater or Jager, that is the question.. I think I am going to get a 250watt jager for $17.99 at bigals let me know if I should get something different or something smaller. I plan on using it in my 60gallon. I just figured I'd spend the extra $3-4 and get the 250watt instead of anything smaller.

well I bought some plexi glass that I guess I am going to use for the lid since I couldn't find anything else. This stuff is not easy to cut at all but I just got the first piece cut out and it fits very snugly in the lip of my tank. I've been scouring it with a utility knife and then chiseling it with a flat screw driver and hammer. It's not pretty, in fact its really ugly and chipped up looking on the edges but it should be a alright lid for around $20.

also.. I ordered almost everything I needed for my tank off of bigals.
