The cheese he ate when i first got him he puked up!!!!!!! It was all in the very shallow end so I got a net and scooped it out. There is a small amount of slick on the surface with tiny pieces of cheese with 4 half digested goldfish, I'm never doing that again. Plus, I can't do a water change on 1750 gallons

No, the rain dilutes the water as it spills over. The amount of waste removed by overfilling a body of water shrinks exponentially as the main body of water is diluted by the new water, so you're losing a lot of new water with the old water. You want to drain it to about 30% and then refill it to efficiently remove dissolved solids.
If you're not doing water 'changes' and siphoning off the bottom junk that's fish poo, then you are only 'topping it off'. Imagine this: if you went to use your toilet and it was just a bucket of water. No matter how large that bucket is.......adding a few gallons of fresh water, even to the point of making it flow/spill over the sides of the bucket, that is not going to 'clean' the 'dissolved solids', fish stuff, from the water. I'm a noob, and I take advice from MFK alot!

But seriously though, Water changes are a NEEDED ESSENTIAL to fish keeping, pond or aquarium. If you had a aquarium that size you would do water changes so you shouldn't look at a pond any differently. The only real difference is that a pond you can see though the sides (usually)
