Is there any difference in appearance between Brazilian & Argentine Dorados? How do you differentiate one from another when they are below one foot long?

which two species are we talking about here?
if youre talking about brasiliensis and maxillosus,i believe theyre basically the same.
look the same as well.

I'm not too sure about the origins.

I've seen a few over foot long adults. one that was gold with yellow tail. the other was silver with red tail. Most are sort of goldish silver bodies with trace of red in tails. In a japanese magazine, saw one that had a sort of rainbow glitter on the trunk, and the shop was calling it a "rainbow dorado" in chinese.

Oh and to answer your question, even the shops who are supposed to be owners can't tell. Noticed you are in HK as well, the latest batch are of the gold body, redish (but not bright red) variety once they grow out.

there's more than one type of Dorado?!

cool. I have always wondered what those...pale looking dorado in the LFS's are.

I have seven Dorados from Brazil. They are silver with a red tail. I got them from a vendor here about 7 months ago. I got them at 2 inches and so far the biggest one now is about 5 inches. So far, they do not show any gold color to them. When they get larger, I do not know how they will turn out.
