Brazilian & Argentine Dorados

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't know of any vendors that bring in Brycon in large numbers. There may be one but I bet there's more true Goldens sold by vendors.

G and Rapps have both had large numbers of small Dorado (Maxilosous) in the last year. Pedro had some as well. I have some from G around 5 inches.

Dorado only grow as fast as you feed them.

From what I have found Maxillosus got a name change to Brasilinus. Same fish.

can i have a 7'' dorado in a 125 gal, and how long

Sure. I have 7 in a 40 gallon. How long it can stay depends on how much you feed.

damn how you put 7 in a 40 how big are the dorado, also can two dorado's live together without fighting or do i need three
I made the mistake of getting two thinking that they would tolerate each other but they fought constantly untill one became more dominant.I just have the one now which is close to eight inches now and I saw a brycon today that I am thinking about getting but I dont know how they will treat each other.

I tried them in larger tanks and the big one would chase the smaller ones at times. Take away his advantages by giving them to the smaller more nimble and all of a sudden the big powerfull Dorado has trouble catching them in the small tank. Seems to work. Either have 2 big tanks with 2 groups or 1 big group in a small tank? Easy choice. Hopefully when they get bigger they'll continue to cohab peacefully. Ill eventually start moving them up in tank size after they get familiar with eachother.

Biggest one is 8 inches, smallest 4.

I had 2 that got along fine but I raised them with 2 others. Had to seperate them for a while but when reintroducing them I had other fish in the tank this time and they got along fine. 3 or more is your safest bet though.
