As I have said many times, unfortunately, fish don't come in from the wild with their names stamped on their ass! I, for one, am very hesitant to put a name on the fish unless it is clearly obvious, particularly if it is a fish people are demanding and paying a high price for. I believe in the past, wild ones were selling for more than twice what I priced them at. The name on my invoice is Cichla 'yellow'.

The facts are these. They came from Southern Brasil, and according to the shipper were caught in the Rio Grande (River), northwest of Sao Paulo, near the town of Fronteira. (For those of you with GoogleEarth, that is lat 20 degrees 18' S, and 49 degrees 08' W.)

I tend to go with the concensus, and look for advice from those more knowledgeable than myself, like Brian Scott, and many others who post here.

What do you guys think it is? Are their alternatives to 'kelberi'?

I got a wild cichla in under the name of sp 'yellow' i wonder if its used to tag certain un identifable species?

from their location i don't see why they can't be kelberis.. the only occelaris that are located if any in those waters were introduced there... the first pic looks promising.. it is also hard to i.d. obese cichla because it distorts body shape.. well when they hit 4-5 inches you can see the way the bars start to form.. this will be a deaqd give away if they are occelaris or kelberis..

I'm optimistic with these guys. I smile every time I get a close look at my pair and notice all the gold spangling on their fins. Honestly, for $30 or whatever they cost, it really is win/win.

A few more...this time after adjusting the settings on my camera. I shoot a Cannon EOS Rebel XT, and I have no idea how to use it to it's full potential :screwy:

Anyway, this is closer to what they look like in person :D
