Thought some of you might want to see what I think is an AMAZING video of a peacock bass strike in Brazil. Perhaps not the most aggressive strike ever but the story behind it is GREAT...
I was on this fishing trip with my father in October 2006 for 8 days on the Unini River in Brazil. We had had a great week but this was our last day fishing before flying out. The day was kinda slow and it was getting toward late afternoon. Just before the video was shot, we spent about 20 minutes with our guide trying to fix a screwed up engine which we thought would have cut our last day short.
Well, the engine got fixed and I told my father that I just wanted to capture the RIPPING technique used with the big Woodchopper lures on video. I cast once to my left about "10 o'clock" and then turned to my right to cast at "2 o'clock" when BOOM!!!...FISH HIT!!!
The FIRST amazing thing was that all this was all captured on video...and done so the very FIRST time trying to film the lure action AND within about 1 minutes of turning on the camera!
The SECOND amazing this is that you'll see in the video that I caught a FEMALE peacock. After releasing the fish, I joked to my father and said, "Hey, let's try and catch the male" and SURE ENOUGH, about 20 yards up I caught the MALE that was with the female!!! Picture of the male with the tell-tale "hump" on its head is below (which I also have on video, just not the strike).
Both fish were about 13 1/2 pounds...GREAT ENDING TO THE TRIP
