Breaking a baby Odoe from live food

just tried tilapia strips. I dropped them in and he eyed it for a little bit, then decided not to take it. But the tinfoil barb went straight for it and grabbed it and shook it like a dog which immediately attracted the odoe's attention and he pounced on it and immediately started begging for more!
 
I stuck some pellets to the strips already and he's eating them well. Do I still need the barb? It's been less than 2 weeks so I can still return him to petsmart Lol his work seems to be done... unless he can help with pellets but I doubt it since it's already been awhile since I've offered pellets. plus the barb bullies the Odoe IDK my odoe is a wimp
 
He's not a wimp, just small ... lol, he'd probably help on cleaning up leftovers, but if he's harassing, I'd get rid of him

Hey I just tried a type of sinking stick pellets and he immediately grabbed one but spat it out after munching on it . He did this twice then decided he doesn't want anything to do with it. what should I do? I also added a polystigma Linni to the tank as well today and they seem to get along fine except the tinfoil sometimes nibbles on the odoe and the odoe kinda tries to get away
 
If he bit it and chewed it, I'd continue pushing that for a few days, especially if the other fish are eating it he'll get the hint ... if he doesnt eat it in say 3-4 days, drop a floating pellet in, you may get an instinctive strike

OK sounds good. My mom just cooked all the tilapia and now i don't have any food except a whole ton of pellets I scored a free AC50 yesterday and I was wondering if i should put it on the 10 gallon cuz atfs and payaras grow like crazy on fast currents but odoes like slow water? IDK but will it be good for him and his growth?
 
mines been on pellets (hikari gold) for about a yeah and since he was 4inch's... just started eating them and went off everything else except the odd bit of roast beef! here he is around 9inch and none off my cichlids mess with him...! they include midas, jag dovii festae, the odoe nearly killed a 12inch giant snakehead aswell, theres a thread on here showing the damage, i had to get rid of the snakehead!View attachment 932062View attachment 932063View attachment 932064
 
Dang dude your pike is turnt up. I wish my pike was as dope as yours. lol i might get another 8-9 incher next week hopefully but I hear he gets chased around by cichla so Im thinking he's a wimp as well so maybe I can grow the lil guy out and have a school (pair) of odoes
