There a lot of Xingu Bass owners on the site. What's the difference between Xingu I ,II and III? Lovethemfish bought in a group that favor all three Xingu type in his last batch. Based on the chicla ID thread can anyone break them down and explain?

The way I understand it is if your talking about f1,f2 &f3 those are the batches of fry so a f1 will show more of the wild characteristics that the wild parents possess and so on down the chain, or at least that's how it was explained to me by him and last we were talking he only was getting in the f1 and hasn't seen f2 yet but again this was before his November orders were in

Good thread I honestly thought it referred to number of fry didn't realize this but would explain why I have two from the same batch that have a different looks to them

not at all, 1st, 2nd generation is called F1, F2, wild ones are F0., Filial 1, 2, 3.

Xingu I, II, III, were used by Germans distinguishing Cichla melaniae that were collect in different parts of the Xingu river that were different in appearance, possibly a different species. If you read the last revision of Cichla paper, Cichla marianae "fogo" were also described to have come from the Xingu river, upper and lower Xingu river.

Well, since non of us have been there, the river is tremendously large, 1230 miles long, I'm sure there are some variations and possibly different species in the river. And since cichlas are so hard to tell apart at various stages one from another, we will never have a clear answer
