All markets carry different stuff and the one I went to def. had oarfish, I doubt you visit the same markets I do, we live on opposite sides of the country.

Idk, I find it weird that one of the rarer fish in the ocean that never really goes above 600 feet as is usually a lot deeper is commonly found in a fish market.

I believe the amount of specimens that have been found is really low

Edit: nvm it says they are fished very little, but apparently their not too good

I used to live in atl and Florida...and people in china eat the same thing...belt fish. I've never ran across an oarfish receipt, ever.

Belt fish is a long silver fish..a type of cutlass fish, eel like. I guess it could be mistaken for a small oarfish if the head is missing. I guess someone like oddball can tell you exactly what type of fish it is.

I wouldn't say commonly found it was only in the one market. Its in Orlando next time I go down I'll check it out again and snag a pic to get it correct ID. As for the ones who said they are catching them I ll have to ask for a photo I wonder if they are calling the oarfish something else, I didn't go with them they just said they were catching oarfish so I assumed they knew what they were talking about.
