I hate that race has come to the forefront of this discussion. Only evidence of hate is George referring to M as a young punk. Can age be used as criteria in this case? M didn't deserve to die. As a Gun owner Z represents everything thats contrary to responsible carrying. Confrontation while carrying is asking for a reason to pop off.

I agree. We may never know who really threw the first blow. That's why I say this law is so flawed. Anyone can claim self defense with it, and unless there are witnesses, it's your word against theirs. And in this case, "theirs" is dead.
Z clearly put himself in this situation, knowing he was carrying a weapon. His initial intentions might not have been to kill M, but you would be insane to think that the thought of Z having to make use of his firearm never crossed his mind. Him approaching/following a would be criminal in the moddle of the night, with a loaded firearm IMO shows intent. Z wanted to be the neighborhood hero, and made a huge mistake. This is why law enforcement has made vigilantism illegal. Z should have just left it to the professionals like he was told, and he wouldn't be in this mess.
I really don't think this law was created for situations like this. Z hiding behind it is just blatant abuse of it. You shouldn't be able to throw yourself in the middle of a dangerous situation you can obviously avoid, and then scream self defense. If he does get away with it, this law seriously needs to be reworked. While I'm all for Americans bearing arms, I think we need to do it responsibly.
I think it's a problem that in a lot of areas, it's easier to purchase a gun, than to obtain a drivers license. I think some kind of seminar/course teaching gun laws and responsibility should be implemented before anyone can purchase their first gun.
glad to see other people understand that what zimmerman did may be covered by law but doesn't make it morally right. i was pretty much torn on this from the beginning but stripped down you can see zimmerman definetly forced the issue and created the conflict with his actions. yes he had the right to fire at the point that his actions lead him to getting an arse whooping by a mino, who may not have been doing anything wrong originally. i honestly believe if i'm being followed in that situation and i'm not carrying, i'm extremely defensive and swinging if i get the opportunity. that doesn't even factor in what could've been said between the two.
i can't help but noticed that no one answered how cool they would be with zimmerman following their wife, daughter, gf or any female for that matter in the same exact situation. does your opinion change so much if you're pro zimmerman that you won't even bother to discuss it?
oh, and how come zimmerman tells the dispatcher he thought martin was in his late teens but in his apology the other day he says he thought martin was just a lil bit younger then him. This trial should be interesting. i'm not sure how you can find enough jury members who don't come in with an opinion already. leaning either direction. people have been known to lie about a case to get on a jury.

I honestly believe Zimmerman is gulity... Why would a boy wearing a hoodie with skittles and a arizona tea look suspicious? I'm 18 years old. I wear hoodies in the winter and spring when I go for walks. When the operator told Zimmerman don't follow him, the idiot should have listened instead he was trying to be a wannabe cop. I truly believe once Martin was close enough, Zimmerman got out of the car and approached Trayvon. Who knows what happened then. I don't believe Martin hit Zimmerman. I've listenend to the 911 call three times. You can clear here the HELP HELP HELP cries and they sound like a teenagers voice. They are clearly Trayvon's. My friend's dad is a police officer and he agrees with me, now if Trayvon had Zimmerman on the ground bashing his head, why would he get up and start screaming help? Most likely Zimmerman was chasing Martin with a gun prompting the help. He shot him dead. I don't believe any of Zimmerman's ****. If you are shot in the chest, you are most likely going to die. How are you going to say you got me? Even if Trayvon hit Zimmerman, he deserved it. Like I said, I'm 18 and If I had a wannabe cop following me, I'd react in a way as well. I don't believe racism is involved in any way because George is a mix breed. I honestly hope Trayvon gets his peace and Zimmerman gets a big penatly. All the Zimmerman supporters are saying how Trayvon got suspended from school from having drugs, and the tattoos, etc... that's a teenager thing. Many teenagers do that. I don't smoke, or do tattoos, but I know many whom do. It doesn't automaticly make us bad people or criminals or suspicious. Has anyone ever looked at Zimmerman's past? He has a history of violence. He assualted a young woman for god sakes, so I won't be surprised. I'm hoping and praying the Martin family gets their justice and peace, they will never ever see their son agian.
Eye witnesses have placed Martin on top of Zimmerman. Voice analyst and martins own father have said that's not trayvons voice crying for help. Gotta get your facts straight to make your point. There was a scuffle no matter what

The more I read up on this case the more I support Zimmerman. At first I wasnt for sure but after hearing some more of what the only eye witness of the incident has said, Zimmerman will get off.
Z did not brandish his weapon while chasing M. Z in fact didnt even chase M, he lost him. M blind sided Z while he was walking back to his car. The one eyewitness said it WAS Z yelling for help.
I hope the media hasnt spoiled the jury pool. Most people that I know who are informed of the case and not just know about what they have seen on TV, support Zimmerman and Florida's stand your ground law which really in this case is irrelevant because even before stand your ground this would have been a justifiable homicide. Having your head beat in on the side walk can easily kill you and you have the right to respond accordingly.
Also, what took M nearly an hour to make a fifteen minute walk IN THE RAIN if he wasnt up to no good? Really though if M was just stopping to smell the roses or indeed casing homes - he has been caught with stolen property before he said he was holding for a friend - is not really important to the case as it all boils down to M initiating the violence against Z that ultimately led to his death. People say, "well if Z didnt have a gun he wouldnt have looked for M."
