Here's my dillemma, i have a lone oscar in my 55 gallon and he just seems bored. Im wondering if there are any kind of dithers/schooling fish i can put in with him that stay small, i'd like to have at least three. I know that it may be pushing the bio load a little but i am running 2 bio wheel 350s and an Ehiem canister followed by weekly 50% waterchanges.

Thanks,
Jimmy

I would go with giant danios. There fast and cheap, likely they will be eaten though

No Oscar experience here, but I've heard Tiger Barbs make good dithers... Pictus Cats are pretty cool, too. Seems to me like they would stay out of his way. How big is the Oscar?

Probably not alot of room to go around in a 55, but silver dollars might work.

You said you wanted something that stays small...but anything that stays small will stay on the Oscar's menu.

The best friend you can get for your oscar is a 75 gallon tank.

Thanks for properly answering my question, you cleared everything up :shakehead

Thanks, i actually had giant danios, Tiger Barbs in mind or else even silver dollars but was afraid they'd get to big.

Lol that's what I'm here for. otherwise, I'm partial to the giant danios. I love there activity level. And they might be fast enough to not get eaten. Unless your Oscar likes to ambush fish like mine did!

Get a 75Gal + tank first and then think about getting more fish to go in with your Oscar , a 55 is a little too small for 1 Oscar with other fish .

Tiger Barbs , Giant Danio's , Silver Dollars , Clown Loaches , Pictus Catfish , Pleco .

Theres a few to think about , but if i was you i would get a 75 or even a 120Gal tank first then persanaly think about getting 5 - 7 Silver Dollars and get a Pleco or a nice large school of Clown Loaches . :)

If you had a bigger tank you could go with just about anything. I have an oscar in a 110 with about 20 fish that are much smaller than he is and so far no losses. Just give the smaller fish some good hiding places. You could try clown loaches.

I know i NEED a bigger tank, i guess i should have explained a little better with the title. The cardinal rule i'm breaking is that i KNOW Oscars need 55 gallons to themselves but 75 for comfort. Getting a bigger tank is unfortunately out of the question for now that's why i wanted to know of any SMALL fish that could maybe avoid getting eaten by the oscar and not take up a bunch of space.
