Hi
i got a 6in ornate bichir last friday, and it's looking good, but it's more shy than the other. I know it's adapting! But it's brathing faster than the others! I didn't see it eating yet also!
What do you think? stress? (it's the bigger in the tank)
Help please!

i thought bichirs breath air?

did you have a decent wow water level? like an inch from the top of the tank?

my tank is ok! I've be keeping fishes for 15 years, i don't have problems with tank or water! My only problems are ilnesses!
thanks all

some time the differences between the water chemistry at the fish store and your tanks can differ enough to cause ph shock that and the stress from relocating can cause a fish to expire you didnt mention how you aclimatized him to your tank the best way i know of it works for cats is to put him in large bucket with a air stone and the water he came with and slowly introduce water from the your tank a cup an hour for a day then introduce him to the tank also put in tap water treament double the amount needed for the size of the tank helps replenish their slime coat and turn the lights out for a couple of days try this next time and sorry for your loss always hurts to lose a fish.. FNH.....

You should go back to the store and ask for a replacement or credit. Dead fish is no Fun.

I spent a hole day to aclimatize it. As you said, i dropped water slowly until the ph, dh and temperature equalized!
unfortunatly, here in Brasil, the pet stores don't refund dead/sick animals, unless you use lawyer, court, etc!! It gets more expensive!

It may have been in poor quality of water before you bought it. Amonia in the tank can "burn" the gills causing discolroation. It may have sufferd too much damage before you got it home.

sorry for the lost, it might have been like that before you have bought it, oh well its part of the hobby, just try again :)
