Hello All,
I purchased 2 - 4" Tinfoil Barbs from "Petsmart" yesterday and they seem to do well for the first 8 hours or so. This morning I discovered that they seem to be breathing alot harder than when I got them. I always do a water test on the water that comes from PS before I put any new fish in my tank to make sure we are in the ball park. Their Ph was 6.6 and mine was 7.0 but all others were zero. Also, I never just dump the fish in with the water from store I get my fish from. I net them and place them in.

I did however have a slight Ammonia (0.25) spike this morning so, I decided to do a 50 % water change / vacuum & stress coat. Low and behold 3 hrs later one died and the other breathing like he just swam a marithon :( . My tank is a 55 gallon & they share it with a 4" Upside Cat and 4 - 3.5"silver dollars. This is only for time being as a new 150 I recently purchased is still cycling. This will be there new home. I have a AQ 70 powerhead running contantly for good water movement. I just don't know what might have gone wrong. Please keep in mind that my water from the tap is Ph 7.6 / Ammo 0 / Nitrites 0 / nitrates 0 . Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thankx in advance

hi, you didn't mention anything about temperature. check to see if your heater has malfunctioned or stuck "on". the higher the water temps, the less dissolved oxygen it can hold. try adding an airstone or lower your water level so your filters splash and add more movement to the water . thats all i can think of right now.

I like blue rams for like 3 months then i got some and they were pretty cool. and some were about to breed and just died and they were breathing very hard. I also had the males for about 2 months then randomly i woke up and they were at the bottom and they turned very dark blue and breathing very hard and then they died the next day. So that was the end for my blue ram kick

Thankx Guy's
I increased the airation on the powerhead and lowered the temp from 80 to 78 and will keep a close eye on them. I thought that it may of had something to do with differience in Ph that may have cause this. I have read that TFB require a nutrual to acitic Ph level. 6.2 - 7.0 I have never experienced a Ph shock with any of the others so, I wouldn't know what symptoms to look for.

Zorro, are you housing all those fish in that 1 55 you have listed in your signiture or do have another tank?

Yeah i no people are going to say the motas are going to out grow the tank. I just want them to spawn a couple of times then i going to sell the fry and the motas.

And then people say motas like to kick the crap out of everything and its true. Thats why i got the sliver dollars and the Danios to take the beating.

Got it, thankx

np the male mota is the second biggest in the tank and he just chase the others out of his terratory
