Ok. I have 6 Acarichthys heckelii that are around 6" long each. They are beautiful fish and are living in a 120 gallon (4ftx2x2). Half of them are wild caught and the others are tank raised. They came from two different sources.

Question #1. Is there any way to visually detmine the sexes? If so how? They all have very long streamers excpet for the smallest.

Question #2. At what size are they sexually mature?

Question #3. What is the secret to getting them to spawn? They get a 20% water change each week, get fed a large vaieity of foods inlcuding frozen (various), pellets (veggie and regular) and flake. The tank has multiple pieces of drift wood.

I have 5 F1 angles (about 1/2 grown) in with them along with 4 gynogeophagus (all small, 3" or so), and a 6" gibbeceps (sp?) pleco. The gyno have spawned successfully once and they are wild caught (I have about 25 fry in a seperate 20 gallon).

Any help would be beneficial. I can post pics later if that would help.

Are the angles acute or obtuse?
:D

That article is very interesting and should answer all your questions. They're one of my favourite fish, so post some pics!!

The article answered everything except for telling the sexes. I assume that venting is the only way. Can they be sexed by visual cues?

I did notice one of mine looked less colourful and had shorter fins than the other two, but unfortunately she (?) ended up as bichir food when I went away over xmas for a week so I didn't get to see if she paired up with the others.
I'd look for behavioural clues if they're all around 6", they should be big enough to pair up and breed.
