Came home to find my male Carpintis hiding in the corner with his fins tore up, my female red devil is the obvious culprit & has taken over his cave that he claimed was his, I know the males are usually the aggressor during the breeding process, looks like she might not be ready yet & doesn't wanna be bothered, has anyone had a similar experience like this & how did it turn out? I would love to have them spawn & raise a batch of fry,,, thx

That red devil looks immature .. I'm sure she never laid eggs being that skinny.. are you sure it's female? And it's a pretty and cute pied fish

They aren't ready for each other though.

Its not breeding aggression, rd are often by far more aggressive than Texas cichlid. She might even kill him before the first eggs if any are ever laid. What are you trying to accomplish, a red Texas?

yeah both are really nice fish I would separate them if possible
+1 use egg crate as divider. Now if you are trying to breed red Texas I would scrap the Red Devil all together and use a blood pair. You might get two to three good female fry out of a batch now will need further intensive line breeding to get decent red Texas. F1 female x GT = better chance of quality fry

More of unintentional circumstances, I know the carpintis is fertile he's breed twice with a female carp that I no longer have, I know line breeding produces quality red Texas's, & blood parrots are the norm, was looking for a rose Queen a while back but could'nt find one, Gonna roll the dice with these two & see what happens, will keep you posted,,,
