i'm currently working on couple pairs right now and to get them to spawn is extremely difficult.

Rudy that's a very nice setup. Fish look a little young still, but what do I know 
Mike Troxell not only bred them, but also figure out how to raise them such that the fry developed complete bars. I have some bred by Dale. Beautiful fish but the middle bar is broken. Mike is on FB too if you want to talk to him.
I have a group of 8 adults, some raised from Wild juvies and others are tank bred from a few sources. They are in a 3' tall 220g that I got specifically for altums. Two pairs have formed for several months that defend each end of the tank, with the rest stuck in he middle. Every time I do a wc they would start cleaning the driftwood, but no eggs yet. It's probably because I'm not hearing the tank. Well it's over 80F today outside so we will find out soon
I think with these guys the name of the game is dedication. Just keep them happy and healthy, and they will reward you
