Breeding and feeding earth worms to fish.... do or dont??

my oscar knows the diff between RED wigglers and small nightcrawlers. he only likes red wglrs.
EVEN if they are the same size. what's up with that?

Oscars are smart and can be a little high maintenance if you let them. I haven't had one now for about 6 years and I think that will change as soon as I find some high quality ones.

I started my vermiculture system today. Used 2 sterlite 18 gallon totes on sale at Meijer, nested them with drainage holes and air holes made with a soldering iron (possibly the best diy tool out there when it comes to anything plastic). I used dry leaves from my yard as a base, spinkled a cup of water on them, added worms 9 dozen red worms, and some veggie scraps. It is in my basement next to my tanks. I will keep everyone updated to how it is working out.

Watch your moisture level and food. It's amazing how much they can eat.

+1 on the moisture. i feel like this thread has made an impact! someone started a vermiculture! whoooooop :) my turn haha also ive read that its good to let the veggie scraps rot up a little or chop them up, makes it easier for the worms. any way thanks alot for everyone chiming in with great info!!

Chopping them up helps but not entirely necessary. I've put chunks of broccoli stalk in and they will eat it downno problem. Also watch when you go to pout the tea off, some worms will be living in it.

Do u just throw in fresh scraps? And ill remember to keep my eyes open for any worms that fall through :)

I have done this before in my classroom and I added apple cores, vegetable trimmings, banana peels, wilted lettuce, etc. Only things I wouldn't recommend are citrus or onions. They tend not to like either and they just rot.
