I have always felt that if were going to take a creature out of its natural element, we have a responsibility as their care taker to give them the best next thing. I always think that fulfilling life events for animals in general is important. And was wondering how hard it would be to breed certain species of lower jaw species if kept in species only tanks? I just think i owe it to them to let them live their lives to the fullest, while I get to document their behaviors and interactions. I do this with reptiles and have taken a great interest in polies mainly the lower jaw species, and wanted to take this a step further. It starts with getting pairs obviously, I have now what I think is 2.2 tikinso endlies and 1.1 laps. I would like to get a second opinion, from more seasoned people. Is there certain angles that I should take pics of? that way the tail base can be looked at in a particular way and get a clear cut answer?

Thanks

Breeding isn't that hard, raising the fry can be a total piann tho-Anne

you want a good clear shot of the anal fin.

but first, how big are they?

Ill get those shots tonight, the endlies range from 13 to 18 inches or so. I need to get an exact measurement. Theyre going to need some time before they settle fully to captivity since theyre w/c. Thanks

Wow! What a difference! As upper jaws breed so much younger!
i don't think its upper vs. lower. i think it has more to do with the size of the species. for instance, ornates would take longer too, like the lower jaw species.

Oh i know.

I understand that it takes that long for them to mature as they get so big and have to do alot of growing before breeding.

It's just 4 yrs difference is alot to me, that's all.

But then again what a difference in size too, between the lower and the upper jaws. :D
