So this is going to be a project for me to accomplish and i think I can.. So i have 4 adults and working on #5 now LOL... obviously I have to vent and see my ratios and second i do have 2 that seem quite fond of one another but who knows.. So I am buying a seperate decent sized tank for them and here are my questions...

If I have say 2F and 2M:

Do I just put all 4 in and see what happens? Divide the tank and do a pair and a pair? Focus on 1 pair and keep the 2nd in a community?

If I have 1F 3M:

Who do I choose? Somehow let her choose my putting all 4 together with no other fish and see?

If I have 3F 1M:

pick a pair to focus on? I know they are not like stingrays and he will not go with them all LOL

Any other combos i can make some easy conclusions.. this is more of a rant/vent that I hope I can get some good suggestions from and can help anyone else with a similar situation with any kind of cichla -mike

as with most cichlids, my best quess would be to let them pair off in a community tank. once paired, put alone in a large tank with ideal conditions and use colder water during water changes to promote natural breeding habitat. also, i once spoke to a tuor guide to does fishing trips for cichla in the amazon and he is currently writing a book on cichla. he said that female cichlas look fot he males with the biggest fat deposists on their heads and the base of their tales. they dont eat throughout the breeding and rearing process and the female picks the most robust male to ensure that he will survive during the whole process. FATTEN UP THOSE MALES!!!

you best shot is to pm tongue33 !!! goodluck, and keep me in mine when you get fry!!!:D;)

good luck :)

and when and if they do breed.... the fries..... dont sell for cheap, gotta keep these beauties' value up cuz i know neither of us would want our fish to be worth less , rite ? xD

I'd certainly like to buy a few off you if you do breed them, I've been wanting Azuls since before they had a formal description. I remember years ago when I first saw Azuls popping up. I do wish you good luck though, I saw your post earlier about the two hanging out and they look awesome!

Only price makes these fish worth "it"? So ..... when Orinos dropped down to about 15 a pop did they become worthless? c'mon dude....

Mike good luck with the project! I hope it takes flight and the fish go through their natural cycle without issues. Breeding nesting and rearing.
