The Mayan wants to breed, and as ive always had mixed opinion on its sex and when tried to get a good papilae shot i sucked at it however i have a few general questions

when a cichlid starts hovering over a rock and wiping its bottom side on it, that means its a female right? cause it has a tube sticking out that curves downward, and i am true in assuming that a males dosnt do this? its not pointed either. its just when i took a piucture of it i must admit the picture made it look very male so thats what people said it was. im just waiting to see how thinngs go but the behaviour suggests it may lay eggs?
does this sound female? cause i didnt think males prepared breeding sites and that with no female present?

this behaviour is the same as all my female fish ive owned before? its honestly really confusing, thanks for the reply camph, im glad we can be civil =)
